Having Success with Treating Burns to the SkinWhen you burn your skin, this is a very painful thing as our first reaction is going to be “ouch,” or maybe some other words that we are not able to say right now. When an individual burns their skin, they will be destroying their skin. The skin controls the amount of heat that our bodies are able to release or retain, holds on fluids and is protecting us from any infections. The burns that are on the fingers and hands are generally not dangerous. You know, when hot grease pops up on you as you are frying your food, those are not serious burns. However, burns that injure even the smallest areas may start to develop complications that are serious. If you believe you have a burn of any type, then you should immediately call 911. Within this article, we are going to tell you how to treat burns on the skin.

When you are treating a burn, it could take up to two days for you to see the improvements. In order to treat a burn, it all starts with stopping the burning process. You should run the burnt area under cool water for a couple of minutes. If you have an ambulance on the way, then the burn is probably pretty bad and you should continue running water over the area that has been burnt until the ambulance reaches you. If you have blistering or the skin is coming off, then this means that the skin has been damaged completely and it is likely that you will be getting complications. If the skin is charring, then it is a deeper problem to all three layers of the skin.

If you have a mild burn that has just reddened the skin a bit, but no blisters are there, then you will need to treat the burn with a topical burn ointment that will help to reduce the pain. Also, you can use the process of running the burn under cool water, not cold or not warm, just cool, in order to stop the pain a bit. No matter what you have heard or what techniques you think will work, you should never put butter or oil on any type of burn.  There are over the counter pills such as ibuprofen that will help the pain from the burn. If you need a stronger pain relief, then you should get into contact with your doctor or go to the emergency room.

When you get burnt, there could be some swelling. If you get burnt on the face or neck, then sometimes it could swell up enough to cause breathing difficulties. Obviously, if this happens then you should not wait around, just call 911! Burns that are going in complete circles around the feet of hands could cause swelling and the blood flow could be restricted. If you have burn yourself and you start to feel tingly, numb, blue or cold, then call 911.  After you have correctly applied medication to you burn, then it should be going through the healing process. As your burn is going through the healing process, you should make sure you wear clothing that is naturally loose. This includes light cottons and silks. Fabrics that are harsh will irritate the skin and make the burned area feel worse.
